Carriages

Although the LMS was active in building Open carriages following the appointment of W A (later Sir William) Stanier as CME, they continued to build some Corridor Thirds at the same time. LMS Corridor Third (TK) 2300 was a Stanier design, although by the time it was built in 1946 H G Ivatt had become the CME of the LMS. It was built at Derby to diagram number 2119 lot number 1407. It features seven third class compartments, and two lavatories, with a side corridor. One post-war modification saw the introduction of an all-welded roof.

2300 was originally purchased for the SVR in February 1978 by a member of the LMS & BR Coach Fund. It arrived on the SVR as an empty shell from Bass Charrington in Plymouth, where it had been used by the barrel-making department. In a six-year restoration it was fitted out with an interior salvaged from coach 13045 which was scrapped. After a period of use it was repainted in the then new Kidderminster paint-shop during 1997. The LMS & BR Coach Fund donated all its vehicles to The SVR Charitable Trust in 2007, following which 2300 received a further repaint in 2008.

2300 is regularly used in the LMS Maroon set (Set L).

Eardington is situated on Eardington Bank, mid-way between Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade. In recent years, rebuilding the platform was completed in 2019 and the water tower was dismantled in 2021. For 101 years between 1862 and 1963, the Severn Valley Railway formed part of the national railway network, running for 40 miles between Hartlebury and Shrewsbury. Established as a separate company, it was mainly operated by the Great Western Railway (GWRGreat Western Railway) and later by British Railways (BRBritish Rail or British Railways).

The present day Severn Valley Railway (SVRSevern Valley Railway) was established in 1965 to preserve part of the line as a heritage railway. Today it has six stations and two halts and runs for 16 miles along the Severn Valley between Bridgnorth in Shropshire and Kidderminster in Worcestershire, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route. Operations involve a mixture of steam and heritage diesel-hauled services.

This unofficial website is a project aimed to collect information and record events relating to the SVRSevern Valley Railway, both past and present.
