2300 in service
2300 was built at Derby to diagram number 2119 lot number 1407.[2] After nationalisation it carried the number W2300M, the prefix indicating a carriage allocated to the BR Western Region and the suffix indicating that it originated with the LMS.
2300 in preservation
2300 was originally purchased for the SVR in 1978 by a member of the LMS & BR Coach Fund. It arrived on the SVR on 9 February that year as an empty shell from Bass Charrington in Plymouth, where it had been used for 11 years as a store room by the barrel-making department.[3] In a six-year restoration it was fitted out with an interior salvaged from coach 13045 which was scrapped. After a period of use it was repainted in the then new Kidderminster paint-shop during 1997. The LMS & BR Coach Fund donated all its vehicles to The SVR Charitable Trust in 2007, following which 2300 received a further repaint in 2008.
2300 is regularly used in the the LMS Maroon set (Set L).
