In service 9627 was regularly paired with Kitchen Diner First 9615 which is also preserved on the SVRSevern Valley Railway. After service, 9627 was used as an office at Roath Dock, Cardiff. It arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in September 1972 having been acquired by Mr Mike Wilkinson. From the mid-1970s it was used as part of the SVRSevern Valley Railway's GWR main-line rake of carriages as well as on the SVRSevern Valley Railway itself. Ownership was later assumed by SVR(H).
As of 2017[update], 9627 is regularly used as part of the Severn Valley Limited dining set. It is finished in GWRGreat Western Railway 1934-42 livery featuring the ‘shirt-button’ roundel.
