80328 in service and preservation
Post Office Sorting Van (POS) 80328 was built at York in 1968 to Diagram 728, Lot 30779. It was allocated to the London Midland region from entry into service in November 1969 until withdrawal in 1999.[1]
It was one of two acquired in spring 2000 from BRBritish Rail or British Railways's Old Oak Common, London. Both were acquired for use on Santa duties at Arley, taking the place of a 'SnakeGWR telegraphic code signifying a passenger brake van' and 'SiphonGWR telegraphic code signifying a milk van' which required a major overhaul.[2]
80328 is in Post Office Maroon livery, and is normally stored at Kidderminster. It was used as Santa's Grotto at Arley during December until 2018, with alternative Christmas services arrangements brought in from 2019. It is owned by SVR(H).
