Carriages

35219 is a BRBritish Rail or British Railways Mark 1 Brake Second Corridor (BSK). It seats 24 passengers in 4 compartments[note 1] and includes one toilet. Around half the carriage is taken up by a small Guard's compartment and a large luggage area. The Guard's compartment was well equipped with a swivelling bucket seat, pie-warmer, radiator with tea-can holder, sawdust box for spillages, and lockable desk with letter rack.[1] It was also fitted with a periscope for use on the Southern Region where guards were not expected to lean out of windows to observe signals[2].

It entered service in the London Midland region in 1958, remaining in service in that region until October 1975.[3] During a repair in the early 1960s it was fitted with a rare type of window assembly on the main body lights.[1]

35219 was preserved in 1976, having been bought by the 6000 Locomotive Association for use as the main line support vehicle for preserved King Class GWRGreat Western Railway 4-6-0 No 6000 King George V. Shortly after it was acquired, the coach went to Swindon for attention, and while there the emergency wrecking kit provided in the corridor wall was fully stocked up.[1]
