Service and preservation
It entered service in 1961 as SC3103 in BRBritish Rail or British Railways's Scottish region, becoming M3103 in the Midland region in February 1964.[1]
Prior to preservation, 3103 had been used as an SAS training vehicle (evidenced by broken table legs and a seat scorched by a stun grenade).[2] It arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway from Oxley, Wolverhampton on 23 July 1984, and was originally overhauled at Bewdley in 1997, with another overhaul and repaint in 2011 (the tyres were turned at Bristol at the same time).
3103 is painted into 1957 Maroon livery with black ends, and is seen paired with Buffet Restaurant carriage (RB) No 1682 for 'Severn Valley Venturer' catering use and special services. It is owned by the SVR (BR) Buffet Car Fund[3].
