It arrived on the SVR in September 1972 having been acquired by Mr Mike Wilkinson. From the mid-1970s it was used as part of the SVR's GWR main-line rake of carriages as well as on the SVR itself. Ownership was later assumed by SVR(H).
As of 2017[update], 9627 is regularly used as part of the Severn Valley Limited dining set. It is finished in GWR 1934-42 livery featuring the ‘shirt-button’ roundel.
