D2960 is one of a number of 165 h.p. diesel shunters at the SVRSevern Valley Railway, and is one of the diesel-mechanical variety. It was built by RustonRuston and Hornsby Ltd. of Lincoln, engineer and locomotive manufacturer acquired by English Electric in 1966. Also, Ruston-Bucyrus Ltd established in 1930 and jointly owned by Ruston and Hornsby and Bucyrus-Erie (US) and Hornsby of Lincoln as works number 281269 of 1950, and was used by the British Sugar Corporation (BSCBritish Steel Corporation, or British Sugar Corporation) at the Foley Park factory.
D2960 in Preservation
D2960 was purchased from BSCBritish Steel Corporation, or British Sugar Corporation by SVR(H) in September 1983 and driven to Kidderminster shortly after the SVRSevern Valley Railway acquired the final section of track. For a time the locomotive carried a fictitious BRBritish Rail or British Railways number of 11510 with black livery, but it has retained the “Silver Spoon” name plates from BSCBritish Steel Corporation, or British Sugar Corporation ownership. D2960 is used as the Carriage Works shunter at Kidderminster.
