Diesel Locomotives

08896 is an 0-6-0 Class 08 350hp diesel electric shunting locomotive. As the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter, the Class 08 became the most numerous of any British locomotive class with 996 built between 1952 and 1962.

08896 in main line service

08896 was built at Horwich Works and entered BR service as D4126 in April 1962 at Ebbw Junction (Newport), moving to Landore in May 1969. In June 1974 D4126 became No 08896 under the TOPS numbering scheme, being withdrawn from service in February 2004.[1]

08896 in preservation

08896 arrived on the SVR in late 2009. The SVR web site shows a status of “For parts retrieval at Kidderminster”.[2]
