08896 in main line service

In June 1974 D4126 became No 08896 under the TOPSTotal Operations Processing System, an American computer system adopted by BR from the late 1960s to number and manage rolling stock. numbering scheme, being withdrawn from service in February 2004[1].

08896 arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in late 2009, missing its centre pair of wheels. The SVRSevern Valley Railway web site shows a status of “For parts retrieval at Kidderminster”.[2] It subsequently moved around the Kidderminster site as space allowed. In 2024 it was 'increasingly becoming an eyesore' and was removed from the Kidderminster turntable area to Kidderminster Carriage Shed for further storage[3].
