The table below lists all diesel and electric locomotives which have been present on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in preservation. These principally comprise:
- Current residents
- Former residents
- Hired locomotives (an asterisk after the hire date indicates the locomotive also took part in a gala)
- Gala visitors
- Contract overhauls
Locomotives of each type are grouped between shunters and mainline locomotives.
It does not include:
- casual visitors delivering stock etc.
- diesel multiple units
- electric locomotives, without some form of diesel propulsion.
