The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, also known by its working title 'Mariah Mundi: The Curse of the Midas Box', is a Entertainment Motion Pictures (E-Motion) fantasy adventure film based on the novel 'Mariah Mundi - The Midas Box' by G. P. Taylor. Stars include Aneurin Barnard as Mariah Mundi, Michael Sheen as Captain Will Charity, Sam Neill as Otto Luger and Ioan Gruffudd as Charles Mundi.[1] It was released on the internet in the US in December 2013 and premiered on DVD in the UK in 2014[2].

Filming on the SVR

Filming on the SVR in 2012 mostly took place at Kidderminster station. Will Charity and Charles Mundi hold a conversation on the station concourse, interspersed with crowd scenes showing 7812 Erlestoke Manor and Stanier Mogul 42968 in platforms 1 and 2. After they have boarded and the train has set off, Charity and Mundi continue the conversation in one of the GWR carriages. A brief exterior shot shows the train being hauled by 7812. At one point Charity hands a railway ticket to Mundi which is inscribed ‘Great London Rail, Second Class, Kings Cross to Aberdeen’. The SVR scenes last around 2 minutes in total.

The obvious anachronism in filming is that the plot is set in 1885 with characters and set dressed accordingly; however 7812 dates from 1939, while 42968 carries a BR-era smokebox number. This may perhaps be explained by the film being described as a fantasy.

For 101 years between 1862 and 1963, the Severn Valley Railway formed part of the national railway network, running for 40 miles between Hartlebury and Shrewsbury. Established as a separate company, it was mainly operated by the Great Western Railway (GWRGreat Western Railway) and later by British Railways (BRBritish Rail or British Railways).

The present day Severn Valley Railway (SVRSevern Valley Railway) was established in 1965 to preserve part of the line as a heritage railway. Today it has six stations and two halts and runs for 16 miles along the Severn Valley between Bridgnorth in Shropshire and Kidderminster in Worcestershire, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route. Operations involve a mixture of steam and heritage diesel-hauled services.
