2017 Autumn Steam Gala guest GER 564 at Arley

This page gives details of steam locomotives that have visited the SVR for galas and other special events.

Locomotives are listed by their most recent BR number, followed by the number carried at the time of the visit (if different) shown in square brackets, for example 60103 Flying Scotsman [LNER 4472]. ( * indicates the loco was also on hire to the Severn Valley Railway at the time)

During the 1970s SVR ‘Enthusiast Days’ (the forerunner of of the modern gala events) were run using only the SVR’s own locomotives, many of which were appearing in steam for the first time. In the 1980s, visiting locomotives began to appear. SVR News did not always link them to specific galas or enthusiast events, merely observing that they visited for a short time.
