Revision as of 17:57, 22 January 2017

I have made this table sortable. The dates would need to be in format to allow sorting by date, I have had a look on the wiki help but don't understand. Can anyone help? I think "31 January - 2 February 2013" could just be shown as "January 2013" - thoughts? Thanks--Patrick Hearn (talk) 11:07, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

The only way I could think to do a date range as sortable would be something like "2016/01/31 - 2016/02/02", as that date format allows sorting properly without special date-specific handling. --Danny252 (talk) 15:23, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Just giving the start date (or if preferred having two columns with 'from' and 'to') would mean you could use genuine dates in the column(s). The Wikimedia date template shows how to enter dates as {{date|2013-01-31}} or {{date|31 Jan 2013}} and have them appear as 31 Jan 2013. Those should then sort automatically. Makes entering data more long-winded, and we don't currently have that template (but could import it, Dan?).
Alternatively, if left as text there is some Wikimedia help on Date sorting problems where you define the column as date-sortable, and Tips and Tricks for sorting dates using a date sorting template. Not sure if that approach is simpler or not.--Robin (talk) 17:31, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
I've got it working for a single date. See User:Graham Phillips 110. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it defaults to UK date format dd/mm/yyyy --Graham Phillips 110 17:43, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
