The Class 08 Society was launched in Spring 1983 to secure a vacuum fitted BRBritish Rail or British Railways Class 08 shunter, to be used on the SVRSevern Valley Railway for ECSEmpty Coaching Stock moves, P.WayPermanent Way work and other shunting purposes[1].
The Society successfully acquired D3022 in April of that year, bringing it to the SVRSevern Valley Railway a month later[2].
The Society also acquired D3201 in 2003, with the option of restoration or use for spares on D3022[3]. Restoration was later completed.
