CR Goods Van 304543

Caledonian Railway Covered Goods Van 4543 is an outside framed ventilated 10 ton Goods Van to diagram 67. A brief description and history of the type is shown on the 302080 page.

4543 was built in 1910 at the St Rollox works of the Caledonian Railway. It also saw service as LMSLondon Midland & Scottish Railway 304543 following Grouping in 1923, and was later used by Cadbury’s (numbered 266), from where it arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in June 1967. It was first painted into Caledonian livery and numbered CR 4543.[1] Later it carried LMSR livery and numbered 304543, as seen in the photograph at Hampton Loade where it was in use as a store.

It and sister 302080 left the SVRSevern Valley Railway in May 2016 for a new home at Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust.[2] The move of 4543 was by rail to Kidderminster, dead slow and strapped up to secure the cracked sole bar reportedly damaged during shunting. Its role as a store at Hampton Loade has been taken by GWR Fruit C 2815.

In 2024 Rapido Trains announced a commercial OO gauge model of the Caledonian Railway Dia.67 Goods Van. Two liveries are being produced of 304543, Caledonian Railway 4543[3] and Cadbury 266[4].
