I'm sure I read somewhere the power classification had been wrongly published and the error had been perpetuated. I suspect I got 4FThe British Railways system of classifying steam locomotives by power using a number from 0, least powerful, to 9, most powerful, followed by either F for freight, P for Passenger or MT for Mixed Traffic. for the original article from the Bookazine "British Steam Preserved", whose author was Keith Langston as above. Classic British Steam Locomotives (ISBN 1-86147-138-6) also goes with 3FThe British Railways system of classifying steam locomotives by power using a number from 0, least powerful, to 9, most powerful, followed by either F for freight, P for Passenger or MT for Mixed Traffic. in line with Wikipedia / Ian Allen. I have now found some definitive information, courtesy of Michael Clemens website. The document Midlands Division (Ex WR) & Gloucester District - Locomotive Route Availability (Branch Lines)- June 1963 confirms that BRBritish Rail or British Railways(W) rated the 57xxA GWR 5700 Class 0-6-0PT engine as 4FThe British Railways system of classifying steam locomotives by power using a number from 0, least powerful, to 9, most powerful, followed by either F for freight, P for Passenger or MT for Mixed Traffic.. I will update the article accordingly.
