It was preserved four such coaches on the SVR . By the time they were built in 1973 and appeared on 1938, CME Charles Collett had introduced more modern designs to succeed the main line 'bow-ended' stock including large picture windows rather than external doors in the compartments. After passenger service, 1146 formed part of the 9-coach Swindon GWR 150 demonstration freight test train which ran to Newport behind [[2857|GWR 2857]] was used for load testing of diesel locomotives, before being preserved in 1985. It required a major overhaul in 2011-12 after being "''probably the most abused historic wagon on the SVR''"1969.
