By the time they were built in 1938, CME Charles Collett had introduced more modern designs to succeed but is the 'bow-ended' stock including large picture windows rather than external doors only one with Diesel Electric transmission. Since preservation in 1980 it has mostly served as the compartments. After passenger service[[Bridgnorth Loco Works#Boiler shop|Bridgnorth boiler shop]] shunter, 1146 formed part although it spent some years out of the 9-coach Swindon GWR test train which was used for load testing of diesel locomotives, before being preserved in 1969service with a blown engine.
