This long wheelbase ‘Fruit D’ Van is a GWR design and was built by BR at Swindon in 1950. In service it was steam heated and electrically lit with power from an axle driven dynamo and steam heatedchassis mounted batteries, similar to the system used on passenger coaches.
It was acquired in the 1970s, and is situated at Highley adjacent to the [[Highley signal box | Signal Box]].
