It is a GWR design but was Chairman of built by BR at Swindon in 1955, some 8 years after nationalisation. It arrived on the SVR between 1971 in 1973 and 1973. A controversial figurehas been at Hampton Loade ever since, he was instrumental in raising where it now serves as the funds to buy the southern section of the line, but his abrasive management style brought about the very real prospect of a volunteers strike.
