He served two terms as Chairman of Advantage West Midlands, the Regional Development Agency from 1999-2012. The RDA contributed to SVR projects [[The Engine House]], [[Highley Station Footbridge]] and [[2007 Storm Damage|repairs following the 2007 Storm Damage]].

He was the Chair of the Governors at the Downs School, Colwall Malvern and a Governor at City Technology College, Kingshurst, Birmingham. He has also been Non-Executive Director with John Laing Homes plc, SIG plc and Worcester Warriors Rugby Club.
