The Coalyard Miniature Railway Model Engineering Society is an affiliated body of the Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies. The Federation provides its around 240 member clubs and societies with services connected with Health and Safety and represents its members on other committees concerned with model engineering.
Brian Shaw helped start the Coalyard Miniature Railway in 1988, and died 16 May 2017.<ref>SVR NBI-H-418</ref> The Federation shows the Society to have five members.
Brian Shaw helped start Thanks to their passengers the Coalyard Miniature Society donates funds to other bodies on the SVR.
