D9551 was preserved at the West Somerset Railway, before moving to the Royal Deeside Railway Preservation Society at Milton of Crathes in 2003.<ref name="UKLocos" /> The locomotive was acquired for the SVR by the [[SVR Class 14 Company Limited]], arriving in November 2013.
Following arrival, an overhaul of ‘Angus’ took place at Bridgnorth. On 30 April 2016, D9551 underwent its first test run on the SVR between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, assisted by [[BR Class 50 50049 Defiance|50049]]. A loaded test run took place on 26 October 2016, following which the locomotive was classified as servicable<ref>[http://www.svr.co.uk/MeetTheLoco.aspx?id=90 SVR diesel locomotive status] retrieved 6 November 2016</ref>, although {{as of| 2017|04|lc=y}} it is still undergoing some bodywork restoration at Bridgnorth, further work and testing. It is due to enter service took place before its debut at the Spring Diesel Festival from 18 in May 2017.
It carries a non-original 'golden ochre' livery, originally an experimental livery carried by [[BR Class 52 D1015 Western Champion]].
