- 1980: The "Great Western Weekend" on 14-15 June saw 7 of the SVR's GWR engines in action (2857, 3205, 4930, 5164, 5764, 6960 and 7819).
- 1983 BBC "Midlands Today" broadcast an item featuring the fitting of new cylinder valve liners for 75069 using liquid nitrogen.[1]
- 2017 BR Class 09 09107 arrived on the SVR for restoration.
- 2022 The first day in traffic for newly hired BR Class 20 20048
