Carriage Type RFO signifies a Restaurant First Open carriage. Although termed a 'restaurant', this class of carriage had no catering facilities; its sole purpose being to provide the seating and tables for first class passengers. Food and drinks were supplied from an adjacent restaurant carriage with catering facilities, such as a Restaurant Buffet (RBR).
