Alan Davies (1953 to 2023) was involved with the SVRSevern Valley Railway for many years, first volunteering at Bridgnorth with the civil engineering gang, whilst starting a full-time career in the building industry. Career-wise, Alan worked as an Architectural Technician for a private architect's practice, Staffordshire County and Wolverhampton City Councils, engaged in conservation and school schemes.

This combined his Railway interest with hands-on experience of construction and maintenance. His first major involvement was in the rescue of Yorton signalbox, near Wem in Shropshire, and its subsequent re-erection as Arley signal box, starting a close lifelong association as a volunteer at Arley, helping to run and maintain the station.

He had a deep interest in the diesel shunters of the Class 08 Society, and was partly responsible for the rescue of roof canopy steelwork at Wolverhampton Low Level intended to provide platform weather protection at Kidderminster.

Alan's building, heritage and railway interests led to him becoming a National Heritage Awards judge and, whilst declaring an interest with SVRSevern Valley Railway entries, he encouraged Valley participation.

He was a SVR(H) director until 1999 and again between 2003 and 2011. He became a Severn Valley Railway Company Limited director on 25 April 2014 and joined the SVRSevern Valley Railway(H) Board for the third time, as one of the Guarantee Company representatives, from 20 October 2017 to 16 November 2021.[1][2]

He was SVRA Chairman from 2008 to 2015.[3] He was also an officer of the SVR Wolverhampton branch.
