Water taken from the [[River Severn]] is stored in the reservoir, and at times of peak demand is used to supplement the supply from the [[Elan Valley Aqueduct]]. The treatment plant is located on the opposite side of the line with water carried by the [[Trimpley Pipe Bridge]]. The reservoir is open to the public. It is used by the Trimpley Sailing Club, while other activities include angling, wildlife watching and walking.
