UIC classification
Robin has changed 1Co-Co1 to 1 Co-Co 1. The UIC classification and Diesel Locomotives visiting the SVR for galas from which I copied the Class 40 entry both have 1Co-Co1. For consistency, what are we using please? Thanks--Patrick Hearn (talk) 14:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
:Sorry, spotted one of each and changed the wrong one. 1Co-Co1 is correct (in the UK at least!) for both the class 40 and 44. From Wikipedia: The 1Co-Co1 wheel arrangement is an alternative to the Co-Co arrangement which has been used where it was desired to reduce axle load. Each "Co" bogie has an additional non-powered axle in an integral pony truck to spread the load. As the pony truck is articulated within the bogie, the arrangement is (1′Co)(Co1′) in UIC notation. In passing, I have a reference books which mentions the case where the non-powered axle is separate from the bogie, in which case it becomes 1-Co-Co-1, but either way it wouldn't have a space. Article now amended.--Robin (talk) 15:51, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
