It was ordered in 1915 as successor the second major movie to feature scenes filmed on the 1912 Churchward 'toplight' prototype SVR, with [[4566|GWR 9055 Nondescript Saloon | 9055small prairie 4566]], but was not delivered until 1923, by which time CB Collett had succeeded GJ Churchward as CME. Like being the prototype, 9369 was an unclassified or 'nondescript' saloon locomotive used for private hire, although unlike the prototype, it did not actually have toplight windows.
