It was preserved on the GWR at Swindon SVR in 1912 as a 'one-off' replacement for a Dean gas-lit clerestory coach which was destroyed 1968 when declared surplus to requirements by fire. As BR just weeks after a 'nondescript' saloon it was not allocated to any specific class such as first or third, and was normally used for private hirefull works overhaul had been completed. Since preservation it It has been adapted as a wheelchair-accessible carriagerun in SVR services every season since, one of only two SVR vehicles to have done so.
