In service the open firsts were often used to carry the company bulldozers during wartimeas dining cars or as part of excursion trains. Only two LORIOT Ys were ever built; the other appeared Since preservation, 3109 has mostly been used in the film 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' [[Severn Valley Limited]] and [[Severn Valley Venturer]] dining sets but has since now been scrapped leaving 41990 as a unique representative of the typede-classified and transferred into general passenger service.
