It was a Stanier design, although H G Ivatt had become CME by preserved on the time it was built SVR in 1946. After withdrawal by BR 1973 and appeared on the main line in 1966, 2300 was internally stripped and used for the next 11 years as GWR 150 demonstration freight train which ran to Newport behind [[2857|GWR 2857]] in 1985. It required a store room by Bass Charrington major overhaul in Plymouth.
