5786 in LT Livery in March 2015

GWR Collett 5700 class 0-6-0PT No 5786, ex-London Transport L92, is a former SVR resident.

5786 is a sister locomotive to the SVR’s 5764. Like 5764, 5786 began life with the GWR and later BR(W), before being transferred to London Transport in 1958.

In 1969 the locomotive was purchased in working order by the Worcester Locomotive Society and moved to the SVR, where it was steamed and restored to GWR livery. In May 1970 it traveled in steam to the Birmingham Railway Museum at Tyseley for a festival of transport, and although it returned to the SVR, it never worked there again.

Shortly thereafter the Worcester Locomotive Society moved their locomotives to the Bulmers Railway Centre at Hereford. When the Centre closed, 5786 found a new home at the South Devon Railway.

5786 has since returned to the SVR for two Gala visits, in spring 2010 (in GWR livery) and spring 2015 (in London Transport livery as L92).
