'''GWR Large Prairie 4144''' is a classmate of the SVR’s [[4150]]and 5164, where more information and a brief description of the 5101 Class is included on the type may be found[[GWR Large Prairie 5164]] page. The locomotive is was on hire to the SVR until between March and November 2019.
==4144 in service==
4144 was acquired from [[Barry Scrapyard]] jointly by the Didcot-based Great Western Society and one of its members in 1974. It was restored by 1997 and took part in “Steam on the Met” in 1998.<ref name=Didcot>[http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/locos/4144/4144.html Didcot Railway Centre]</ref> In Spring 2001, 4144 appeared a guest at the SVR’s Spring Gala ‘Branch Line Weekend’.
After an overhaul, 4144 re-entered service at Didcot after overhaul in May 2015.<ref name=Didcot/> In March 2019 the locomotive made a return appearance at the SVR’s Spring Gala, during which some disruption was caused when it became temporarily trapped on the points at the south end of platform 1 at Kidderminster. The loco was undamaged and continued in the gala. In April 2019 the SVR announced that 4144 was to remain on hire until 4 November 2019.
