GWR Gangwayed Full Brake (BG) No 98 was built to Diagram K42, Lot 1665 at Swindon in 1945, during Frederick Hawksworth’s tenure as Chief Mechanical Engineer. As with the earlier ‘Snake C’, this full brake features a central Guard’s compartment with luggage compartments at each end, while a side corridor allows passengers to pass through the carriage.
98 finished its GWR service being used for parcels traffic, and was purchased from Manchester Red Bank Sidings in 1978 by the GWR 813 Preservation Fund. It was used on SVR trains in 1978/79, and later used as a workshop at Kidderminster. It is now kept at Bewdley yard as store and workshop.
