42138 was built at Swindon The wagon remained in 1909 service with the GWR and later BR(SVR Stock Book 9th Edition states 1908W) until 1984, when it was sent to Diagram G18, Lot 584[[Barry Scrapyard]]. It has a capacity of 15 tonswas rescued from there and arrived on the SVR on 16 August 1984. Examination revealed that the frame had previously cracked in two places and that welded repairs carried out by BR had begun to crack again.
