Built in 1890 at Swindon to lot Diagram O.21, Lot 556 at Swindon, 41277 is the oldest wagon on the SVR . It is also the oldest known surviving and the only known survivor complete example of over 18,000 four plank open wagons built by the GWR between 1886 and 1902. <ref>Railway Heritage Register Wagon Survey</ref>
The grease axle boxes were replaced with 'OK' oil axle boxes in 1910 and the original single sided brakes were upgraded in 1928 to comply with Board of Trade regulations by having a second lever operating a single shoe added to the other side.<ref>http://www.gwr813.org/gwr813newsletter_B1.htm</ref><ref>A history of GWR goods wagons. It was bought by [[The GWR 813 Preservation Fund]] in 1984 from Sharpness Docks, where it is believed it had been since being condemned by the GWR in 1935, arriving in 1986. <ref>SVR Stock Book 9th Edition</ref> It is operational and based at Bewdley.
