The Society was formed to operate the [[Coalyard Miniature Railway]] from 1988.
The Coalyard Miniature Railway Model Engineering Society is an affiliated body of the Southern [https://fmes.org.uk/about-us/ Federation of Model Engineering Societies]. Its previous website showed the Society to have five members. The Federation provides its around 240 member clubs and societies with services connected with Health and Safety Brian Shaw helped start the Coalyard Miniature Railway in 1988, and represents its members on other committees concerned with model engineeringdied 16 May 2017. <ref>SVR NBI-H-418</ref>
