From the 1970s on, raffles were promoted by the [[Severn Valley Railway Association]]. Normal practice was to hold two raffles each year, one organised by the Association committee and the other by one of its individual branches.<ref>SVR News 70 (1983), SVR News 137 (2001) etc</ref> Some raffles were for major infrastructure projects such as [[Bridgnorth Bypass Bridge]], or purchase and restoration of particular locomotives. Others were for less glamorous projects like better washing facilities for working volunteers<ref>SVR News 73, 74</ref>.
At some time after 2006 raffles became annual rather than biannual, and have been organised by the [[Severn Valley Railway Company Limited| Guarantee Company]] since the merger with the Association in October 2015. By 2021 raffles were organised by [[Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust Ltd|SVR Charitable Trust]].
