These vehicles were built by BR in 1958 at St Rolloxfor use on express passenger services as well as parcels and freight trains, and is equipped with commonwealth bogies. GUV’s are classified were classed as [[:Category:Non Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock (NPCCS) | Non Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock (NPCCS)]].The side doors allowed loading of containerised mail and parcels and newspapers. The GUVs were 'through piped' for use on steam heated services, although they were not themselves steam heated.<ref name=SVR>SVR Stock Book 9th Edition</ref>
==94157 in preservation and service==General Utility Van (GUV) 94157 (originally numbered 86523) was preserved built by BR in 20061958 at St Rollox, and is equipped with commonwealth bogies. <ref>Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey</ref> It was preserved in 2006, being bought with 94200 (earlier 86207) to keep parts secure for [[SR 34027 Taw Valley]].
The photograph shows 94157 in March 2015 at [[Bridgnorth MPD]] where it is used by the Department as a storage vehicle. In 2016 it received an overhaul and repaint into BR maroon livery.<ref>SVR News 194 p. 14.</ref>
