4345 was built by BRCW in 1957 to diagram number 93 (AC204), lot number 20207. It entered service as E4345 in March 1957, briefly becoming W4345 in September 1985 before returning to the Eastern region as E4345 in April 1986.<ref name=Longworth>[[Bibliography#Other References|Longworth (2013)]] p.54.</ref> During repairs in 2021 the prefix 'GE' was found under many layers of paint: during its time in the Eastern region it may have been was numbered GE4345, signifying allocation to BR’s London Midland and Great Eastern lines.<ref>Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey</ref>
In 1985, 4345 and class mate [[BR 4593 Tourist Standard Open|4593]] formed part of the GW 150 exhibition set used by BR, for which they received commemorative tables and other modifications to the interior decor.<ref>SVR Stock Book Ninth Edition</ref>
