The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust is building a new locomotive of the Riddles BR 3MT 2‑6‑2 82000 Tank 2‑6‑2T class, none of which survived into preservation. The A number of members of this class are prototypical for of tank engines hauled services on the SVR, having hauled services during the BR era. ==The 82xxx class==Most of the ‘BR Standards’ were essentially a development of the similar LMS type. However while the 3MT 2‑6‑2T chassis design was closely based on the LMS Ivatt Class 4, the boiler design was derived from the GWR No. 2 boiler as fitted to the GWR Large Prairie 2-6-2T.  45 of these locomotives, numbered 82000-82044, were built at BR’s Swindon works between 1952 and 1955. All 45 began service in lined black livery, but many of those that worked on the BR Western Region were later repainted in lined green or latterly in unlined green livery. At least six of the class saw service on the Severn Valley Branch while allocated to Shrewsbury shed: {| class="wikitable"! Number !! Allocation |-|82000 || Shrewsbury 1955-1959|-|82004 ||Shrewsbury Jun-Sep 1959|-|82005 ||Shrewsbury Apr-Jul 1961|-|82009 ||Shrewsbury Jun-Sep 1959|-|82021 ||Shrewsbury Jan-Mar 1960|-|82032 ||Shrewsbury Apr-Aug 1961, Dec 1961-Jul 1964|-|} A further 18 of the class were to have been built, but the order for these was cancelled as part of BR’s Modernisation Plan. The closure of branch lines such as the Severn Valley and the replacement of steam by DMU services ultimately led to the withdrawal from service of those already built. None survived into preservation. ==New build locomotive 82045== The locomotive is being constructed at Bridgnorth. It has been given the number 82045, which would have been allocated to the next class member had the Modernisation Plan not intervened. The Trust’s website notes that "As 82045 was destined for the WR had it been built as planned in 1956, it was decided that the loco when finished should appear in the attractive Swindon-inspired livery of dark green, lined out in orange and black. A subsequent repaint into lined black hasn't been ruled out, though."
The locomotive is being constructed at Bridgnorth. Progress on construction at February 2016 can be seen in the pictures below. The Trust issues monthly news updates on its website with progress reports.
