The 15XX Pannier Tank Trust was originally fromed in 1970 in order to purchase and preserve [[GWR Pannier 1501]] and was later renamed the 1501 Pannier Tank Trust.
In January 2006 the Trust was transformed into a Registered Charity and re-named '1501 Pannier Tank Association', Registered Charity number 1134477.<ref>[https://1501pta.jimdo.com/ 1501 Pannier Tank Association website]</ref>Its activities are to "To provide support and financial assistance for the preservation of steam locomotive 1501."<ref>Charity Commission</ref>
