2233 was originally built for BR by Metro Cammell in 1950 to a GWR Hawksworth design. It was later relegated to departmental use as a breakdown train riding van, being renumbered DW 150401 (Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey; SVR stockbook states 150461).
2233 was one of four such coaches purchased by [[Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) PLC | SVR(H)]] in 1980, arriving from Radyr. Originally it was intended primarily as a source of bogie spares, but the body has been retained for volunteer dormitory accommodation at Bewdley. The corridor connections have been blanked off.
