Michael Ernest '''(Mike) Ball''' (b. November 1943) became chairman of [[SVR(H)]] in succession to [[Nick Paul]] in September 2021.

Mike worked for Honeywell of the USA and for Bull of France in a career spanning 35 years. Prior to taking early retirement Mike’s role was Bull’s Director of Customer Services for the UK and Ireland, a multi-million pound business with a staff of some 800 people.

He joined the Railway as a volunteer in 1986. He was chairman of the operating committee for seven years and was heavily involved in the fundraising following the [[2007 Storm Damage|2007 storm damage]], becoming a director. He became deputy chairman in 2011. He subsequently led the development of the SVR’s working relationships with main line train operating companies.
