Since operations began in May 1970, the SVR has seen three collisions with vehicles on crossings, for which no blame was attached to the railway. One locomotive Two locomotives have suffered a derailed tenderwhile hauling passenger services.
==Collisions== ===Waterworks Crossing collision===

The derailment occurred on a right-hand curve over the site of an embankment slip at fault, independent witnesses having testified [[Folly Point]] which was subject to a temporary 5 mph speed restriction. The SVR's investigation found that the driver had passed weight distribution between the flashing red lights when wheels of the train tender was only not set up correctly following maintenance. ===Hampton Loade derailment===On 28 September 2009, a derailment occurred when the tender of [[LMS Ivatt Class 4 43106]] hauling a down passenger train became derailed as it approached [[Hampton Loade]]. There were no injuries. The immediate cause of the accident was the leading right-hand wheel of the tender flange climbing over the rail at the site of a track twist.
