The Class 09 is similar to the Class 08, of which the SVR has a number of examples, but with different gearing giving an increased top speed at class designed for mixed traffic use on secondary routes where the expense of a lower tractive effort. In 1988 BR Standard Class 5 and its predecessor the locomotive was named in honour of Richard 'DickBlack Five' Hardywould be too heavy. Unsurprisingly, there are a large number of questions about the SVR, both in pre-preservation days and for a number of historical items since then. Take a visit down to [[Query Corner]] to see if you have a recollection relating to some long forgotten event, or know of a reliable source (maybe an early edition of the [[Severn Valley Railway News | SVR News]]?) that might have the information we need!
