How is it used in practice? Is it similar to token working, with both signalmen having to act in tandem and communicating using bell codes?
: Yes, both those things are true. The main differences in how it's used are: there are no tokens; the signalmen accept trains by pulling the acceptance lever (one of the levers in the lever frame), and if the line is clear that releases the section signal at the other box.
