In October 1972, the platform water columns from Henley were obtained with a view to replace those previously obtained from Stourbridge.
By 1981 the water softening plant was proving unable to cope with the quality of local mains water supply at Bridgnorth. As a result, the SVR laid a water main to Bridgnorth from [[Knowlesands Tunnel | Knowlesands]], the nearest source of softer water<Ref Name = SVRNews60”>SVR News 60</ref>.
